DREAMERS is a piece made possible by the Steven R. Gerber Trust and written for the 2021 Fresh Inc. Festival. This piece was inspired by the Dream Act and the amazing students that have come out of this. The Development, Relief, and Education for Alien Minors Act, known as the DREAM Act, is a United States legislative proposal to grant temporary conditional residency, with the right to work, to unauthorized immigrants who entered the United States as minors. This program has allowed so many bright and talented students to learn in our great schools and universities. To learn more about the most recent changes in the Dream Act you can read the legislation at

The meaning behind this piece is without DREAMERS there is no American dream. The different sections, Hopefulness, Gathering Knowledge, Doubts, Repetition, Anticipation for the future, and Eager for change all have different meanings. Hopefulness is parents and students fighting for a chance to stay in America. Gathering Knowledge and Repetition are sections where the students working hard and studying to complete their courses. Doubts, Anticipation for the Future, and Eager for change all show how the system and the Act are not perfect and need revisions.
